BREAKING: Barney Frank to Retire!!

Have to admit I didn’t see this coming.

Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) will not run for re-election for a 17th term. He’ll hold a press conference at 1 pm ET to discuss his decision.

The 4th Congressional District is heavily Democrat. At first glance you might think there isn’t a chance it could go red, but the same was said when Scott Brown initially set out to run for Senate in MA. The possible outcome, of course, depends on who Democrats send through their primary. Republicans have what looks to be a fairly solid candidate in Sean Bielat.

The ad below was ran by Bielat back in 2010.

Barney Frank strikes me as the kind of guy too arrogant to walk away from his powerful position in Congress. Frank is corrupt and everyone knows it, but his Democrat colleagues have protected him and shielded his candidacy.

Why he would now decide to retire is anyone’s guess, but I can’t say I’m not pleased to hear the news.
